        French Toast Bake
        (Category: Breakfast)   (Flagged: 7)

        About Recipe:: Recipe submitted by Laura from Evening with the Stars event

        Ingredients:: 12 1 inch slices of fresh French Bread {or a little larger}
        6 eggs
        3 cups Milk
        1 1/2 cups packed Brown Sugar
        1 Tsp vanilla
        1/2 tsp nutmeg
        1/2 tsp cinnamon {optional}
        1/2 cup butter
        2 cups frozen mixed fruit {or any frozen fruit you like}
        1 cup chopped pecans
        1 can whipped cream

        Directions:: Heat oven to 400 degrees.
        Combine eggs, milk, vanilla, nutmet, 3/4 cup brown sugar & milk in bowl. Beat for 1 - 2 minutes by hand or with mixer. Place french bread slices in 9X13 pan. Pour egg mixture over french bread. Cover pan with aluminum foil. Refrigerate overnight for best results.

        30 minutes before baking remove pan from fridge and let stand. Bake covered for 30 minutes. While baking, melt butter & combine with other 3/4 cup of brown sugar, set aside.

        Remove from oven and top with frozen fruit and pecans. Drizzle with butter/brown sugar mixture.

        Bake another 10 minutes uncovered {or until knife can be inserted and come out clean}. Let stand for 5 minutes once out of the oven. Top with whipped cream and serve.

        Variation:
        You can keep the toast plain by just drizzling with butter/brown sugar mixture instead of fruit.

        You can add raisins to the plain toast with butter drizzle.

        You can use canned apples & caramel or pineapple with the butter drizzle.
