Perennials

My favorite variety is… what ever happens to be blooming on any given day! If I HAD to choose just one, it would probably be a delphinium, or a lily, or a bee balm, ugh I can’t pick just one! Perennial gardens are always a work in progress! To be a perennial gardener means you like to rearrange your beds and are ok with them sometimes rearranging themselves! I have discovered several important things that have helped me reduce the time it takes me to maintain my beds. One, I like to top-dress my beds with about 3 inches of wood mulch. This helps to keep the weeds at bay, and also reduces the time I have to spend watering. Secondly, when creating a new bed I try to avoid sharp angles, I like the shape to be easy to mow around.
At Bloomers we sell over 300 varieties of perennials plus another 70 hostas. Check out our plant list at www.bloomersmn.com. We are always looking for new plants so please let us know if we are missing anything great that grow well and survive in our harsh winter climate!
